Suzuki Builds Auto Plant in Vietnam
Vietnam Suzuki Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of Japan’s Suzuki Motor Corporation, broke ground on the construction of its automobile manufacturing plant in Long Binh Industrial Park, Bien Hoa City, Dong Nai Province on April 25, 2012.
The groundbreaking ceremony welcomed high-profile guests such as Mr. Le Duong Quang, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Mr. Dinh Quoc Thai, Chairman of People’s Committee of Dong Nai Province, Harumitsu Hida, Consul General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City, and executives from Suzuki Motor Corporation.
Suzuki will invest US$13 million in the 159,152-square metre factory, bringing its investment in Vietnam to US$57.9 million.
The new plant, which is scheduled to start its operation in 2013, will raise the company’s output to 10,000 units in the first year of operation and 20,000 units per year in the following years.
Vietnam Suzuki Co., Ltd began to manufacture motorbikes at Binh Da factory in Dong Nai in 1996. Its first motorcycle plant was constructed in neighbouring Long Binh Industrial Park in 2006 to meet the expanding motorcycle market in Vietnam. The new motorcycle plant produces 80,000 units per year.
