DHL Joins the Fight against Climate Change in Vietnam

DHL, the world’s leading logistics company, on April 19 announced that its Vietnam Express division recorded a 13 percent year-on-year improvement in overall CO2 efficiency in 2011, compared to 2010.

 

DHL-VNPT Express, which possesses one of the largest fleets of delivery vehicles in the nation, will be replacing a portion of its current fleet with 25 new fuel-efficient vehicles.

“DHL's vans traverse an estimated 10,000 kilometres of Vietnamese roads on an average day, and this 15 percent reduction in carbon emission will contribute to a cleaner, greener Vietnam for all to enjoy,” said Mr Christopher Ong, General Director DHL-VNPT Express. “This is a clear win-win situation. Not only are we reducing our vehicle emissions, we are also increasing the volume that we can carry in and out of the nation for businesses here.”

 

The adoption of eco-driving techniques will lead to an estimated reduction in fuel consumption of up to ten percent over all of DHL’s current fleet of vehicles nationwide.

 

DHL is the first global logistics provider to set a quantified CO2 efficiency target under its GoGreen program. Launched in 2007, the program aims to improve the company’s overall carbon efficiency by 30 percent by 2020. To achieve this, DHL has put in place a clear roadmap to manage its carbon footprint from energy consumption in real estate and ground transport, and to measure the effectiveness of the abatement programs implemented.
