Package 2 of HCMC Urban Railway Line 1 Signed

The Contract for Package 2 (Elevated section and Depot) under the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Construction Project Line 1 (Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien) was signed on May 16 in Ho Chi Minh City.

 

The Line 1 has the total length of 19.7km including 2.2km underground section with 3 underground stations and the remainder of 17.5km elevated section with 11 stations. Upon completion, the Project is expected to meet the increasing transportation demand in Ho Chi Minh City, thereby contributing to regional economic development and mitigation of traffic congestion and pollution.

 

Package 2 comprises of all civil and structural works for the elevated section and the depot. The construction work is to be carried out in 235 weeks from the commencement date by the Consortium of Sumitomo – Civil Engineering Construction Corporation No.6.

 

To date, two Loan Agreement(s) for Line 1 Project were signed on March 30, 2007 and March 30, 2012 respectively between the Government of Vietnam and JICA with the total amount of 65,189 million JPY. JICA will provide additional financing based on the actual implementation progress. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2018.
