Luong Quoi Coconut Processing Co., Ltd: Diversifying Products
As a pioneer in a cleaner production model which is proven to be more cost-effective and more productive than other models, in 2011, Luong Quoi Coconut Processing Co., Ltd invested in the second 3-ha Thanh Vinh factory with an annual output of 15,500 tonnes of canned coconut milk and 1,500 tonnes of low-fat desiccated coconut in the first phase. This facility will meet the growing demand for desiccated coconut in Vietnam and in the world while taking most of locally available coconuts. The first Thanh Vinh factory will be enlarged to raise the annual output from 9,000 tonnes of desiccated coconut to 14,000 tonnes in the second phase. By 2013, it will reach 80 - 100 percent of capacity.
With effective marketing, Luong Quoi Coconut Processing Co., Ltd has been a top exporter of coconut products in Ben Tre province for years. Its crude coconut oil has been shipped to China and Thailand while its desiccated coconut has been made available in the Middle East, North Africa, South Africa, the EU, the United States, Japan and Thailand. The company exported 2,960 tonnes of coconut products worth US$4.27 million in 2008; 3,520 tonnes valued at US$3.21 million in 2009; 5,676 tonnes valued at US$7.56 million in 2010; 5,420 tonnes worth US$13.61 million in 2011; and expected US$15.4 million in 2012. At present, about 90 percent of the company’s products are exported and only 10 percent are sold to confectioneries in the country. Director Cu Van Thanh said the product quality is guaranteed because it is closely controlled by ISO22000:2005 quality management system certified by international certification agency SGS. It is also granted HALAL certificate for sales of tallow-free products in Islamic countries; and FDA certificate by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
After three years using cleaner production methods funded by Denmark, the company has witnessed impressive improvements in technology, equipment, workplace environment and management. The knowledge, attitude and responsibility of staff are enhanced. Presently, finding a new way to cut costs, lowering selling prices and increasing profits is a wise move in response to economic crisis. Cu Van Thanh said the second Thanh Vinh factory, equipped with machinery and technology from Thailand, will be put into operation in July 2012 with brand-new canned coconut milk. He strongly believed that this innovative product would win the trust of customers. The company is now holding Luong Quoi and Thanh Vinh brand names.
