ASEAN Receives Token of Appreciation from the Philippines

A special copy of a 50-Philippine-Peso banknote has proudly joined the ranks of special mementos at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta. The currency note is from a special edition of a series of 50 peso bank notes. It was presented to the Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr Surin Pitsuwan, as a gift from the Philippines.
 
 “Philippines has always been an essential part of ASEAN from the start, and as one of the founding Member States of this association, it has always provided us with its readiness and willingness to contribute to the process of regional development and prosperity. I thank you and commend this initiative,” said Dr. Surin at the presentation ceremony at the ASEAN Secretariat. It was presented by Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community, Ms Alicia Dela Rosa Bala. DSG Bala hails from the Philippines. The gesture is a token of appreciation for to the ASEAN Secretariat.
 
Philippines Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert F. del Rosario, had distributed souvenir copies of the special edition currency to Ambassadors and representatives of ASEAN, at the 45th ASEAN Day celebrations in Manila. Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) will circulate 10 million pieces of these special edition 50-peso bills to promote greater awareness on ASEAN in the country.
