Vietnam-Sri Lanka Business Cooperation Council Established
The Viet Nam-Sri Lanka Business Cooperation Council has recently made its debut in Sri Lanka’s capital city of Colombo.
Addressing the opening ceremony, the President of Sri Lanka’s National Chamber of Commerce, Asoka Hettigoda, emphasized that the establishment of the council aims to promote and expand the relationship and economic cooperation in terms of trade, investment and tourism between Viet Nam and Sri Lanka.
He stressed on the working and trade promotion visit of the 17 major Sri Lankan businesses to Viet Nam last year, saying that it has helped with the establishment of a number of linkages between the two countries’ businesses and the joining in the Council.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Ton Sinh Thanh applauded the inception of the council, describing it as an important event which will herald in new developments in bilateral trade, investment and tourism cooperation of both countries.
He praised the efforts made by the two nations’ businesses, especially Sri Lanka’s National Chamber of Commerce, which has contributed significantly to increasing two-way trade in recent years from US $113.2 million in 2011 and estimated to US $150 million this year.
The Council will promote its role and exploit the potential of each country, strengthening and developing cooperation between businesses from both countries, the Ambassador added.
He also stated that the Vietnamese Embassy in Sri Lanka will support and create the favorable conditions for Sri Lankan businesses to seek out opportunities in Viet Nam.
