Workshop on "Response to Climate Change in Vietnam” Opens in Hanoi
The Commission for Science, Technology and Environment of the lawmaking National Assembly in conjunction with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment recently held a workshop on "Response to climate change in Vietnam" in Hanoi to provide more information about deployment and result of climate change response in Vietnam for congressmen being the commission members.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment estimated that sea water level may rise by one meter to the end of this century. Given this scenario, about 40 per cent of the Mekong Delta area, 11 per cent of the Red River Delta area, and about 3 per cent of the area of coastal provinces will be flooded. Ho Chi Minh City will be the worst affected with water covering 20 per cent of the area, affecting 10 - 12 per cent of population, and causing 10 per cent loss to GDP.
