VN, Ukraine Prepare for FTA Talks
Viet Nam and Ukraine will kick off negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) in January 2013.
The decision was made during the visit to Ukraine from December 1-4 by Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai at the invitation of his Ukrainian counterpart A. Tigipko.
During the trip, Deputy PM Hai met with Ukrainian PM Mykola Azarov and visited the overseas Vietnamese business community and the Vietnamese Embassy in Ukraine and the Antonov aircraft factory.
The two sides considered the launching of FTA talks a breakthrough in trade ties in the coming time.
They acknowledged the need to perfect the legal foundation by speeding up negotiations and signing of agreements on investment protection and animal quarantine.
Both sides agreed to accelerate cooperation in the domains of their strength, including energy, manufacturing, and aviation, technological transfer and local-level relationship between Kiev and Binh Thuan province, Kharkov and Khanh Hoa province, Kherson and Kien Giang province.
Deputy PM Hai emphasized that the Party, State and Government of Viet Nam are extremely interested in the protection of citizens in general and in Ukraine in particular while meeting with the overseas Vietnamese business community.
At the meeting, outstanding overseas businessmen were awarded certificates of merit for their contribution to trade and commercial linkages between the two countries.
