VNPT Posts 9Mln Phone Subscribers September-End

The Vietnam Posts & Telecommunications Corp. (VNPT) has reached nine million telephone subscribers including four million mobile phone subscribers as at the end of September this year.

The corporation held a ceremony on October 6 for subscribers winning prizes in its promotion program namely “Welcome the event marking 10 phones for every 100 residents and celebration of 54^th anniversary o Dien Bien Phu Victory”.

As at the end of the first week of May 2004, VNPT signed to provide telephone services for 8,234,000 subscribers, representing a ratio of 10 phones per 100 locals, up 10 fold against 1994.

The strong growth of phone subscribers was attributed to three factors, namely the reduction of telecommunications and Internet service prices from May 1, 2004. a reduction in mobile phone charges from August 1, and especially the implementation of standardised fees across the country.
