Vietnam Posts Jan-Sep GDP up 7.4 per cent

 

Vietnam’s gross domestic product (GDP) in the first nine months of the year expanded by 7.4 per cent against the same period in 2003 to VND492.4 trillion (US$31.3 billion), higher than the on-year growth of 7.1 per cent in January–September last year.

 

The value of the industry and construction sector in the first nine months went up by 10.1 per cent on-year, totalling VND201.65 trillion (US$11.1 billion). The figure accounts for 40.9 per cent of total GDP.

 

The agriculture, forestry and fisheries sectors reached a growth of 2.9 per cent with total value of VND102.7 trillion (US$6.54 billion), accounting for 20.9 per cent of the total.

 

The services sector saw 7.1 per cent growth with total value of 188.06 trillion (US$11.95 billion), representing 38.2 per cent of GDP. The finance, banking and insurance sector saw the highest growth of 9.6 per cent in comparison to 7.7 per cent in January-September 2003.
