Vietnam not to Apply WTO Disadvantageous Terms on China

Vietnam will not apply three disadvantageous terms that China accepted for its WTO entry, according to a not of exchange signed last week between Vietnamese Prime Minister Phan Van Khai and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, who was on his visit to Hanoi

to attend the fifth Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM 5).

The two leaders witnessed the signing of eight agreements on economic, commercial and technical cooperation between the two countries, including a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on building a fertiliser plant in northern Ninh Binh province, and a pact on building a pilot railway route from Hanoi to Ha Dong town with total investment of US$302 million.

The agreements also included an agreement on economic and technical cooperation between the two governments, a MoU on the establishment of the Vietnam-China expert group for economic and commercial cooperation, and a commitment to tighten the inspection of imported foodstuffs and maritime products and the quarantine on Vietnam's rice imported to China.
