Strengthening Comprehensive Education Development Cooperation
In recent years, Vietnam and Italy have obtained new achievements in education and training cooperation. This development is not commensurate with the potential that the two sides have, but many programmes and projects in education and training that Italy has supported in a number of Vietnamese schools are operating effectively.
They include a number of projects in typical educational cooperation between Vietnam and Italy such as: Project of Training Centre for food processing industry in Hanoi Science and Technology University; project of increasing capacity of agricultural research and training of Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry - University; Project of the Carlo Urbani Centre at Hue College of Medicine. In addition, Vietnamese universities regularly exchange books, publications and audiovisual materials with Italian universities to enhance mutual knowledge about culture, education system and educational methods. This is a positive signal of the growing educational ties between the two countries.
Mr Lorenzo Angeloni, Italian Ambassador to Vietnam, said that recently, Vietnam and Italy have actively implemented effective comprehensive cooperation agreements in education and training. Currently the population of Vietnam is overwhelmingly young, so the strategy to develop Vietnam's education implemented at this stage is extremely appropriate and is a golden opportunity for Vietnam’s education - training with the aim of greater international integration. On that basis, with good friendship between the two countries, Mr Lorenzo Angeloni said Italy is willing to cooperate and support Vietnam in the education and training of the young generation. Besides, Italy also wishes to strengthen cultural exchanges among the young generation between the two countries.
According to Deputy Minister Tran Quang Quy of Education and Training, Vietnam always encourages leading universities in developed countries such as Italy to implement joint training projects in Vietnam. To further strengthen cooperation between Vietnam's Ministry of Education and Training and the Ministry of Education, University and Research of Italy, Deputy Minister Tran Quang Quy proposes that Italy should study and develop a programme to promote specific educational products to Vietnamese students. With the number of over 200 Vietnamese students, Italy should have plan to early recognise equivalent qualifications between the two countries to ensure the rights of Vietnamese people studying in Italy. It's necessary to further promote academic exchange programmes between the two countries. Also the Italian side should have an ODA policy for Vietnam in higher education and vocational training or encourage Italian education institutions to participate in education programmes such as ASIA-URBS and ASIA-LINKS, the Europe-Asia education links.
In the visit to Italy from January 20-22 2013 of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the two sides also signed a joint declaration establishing the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Italy. Among the areas that the two parties signed is the Education Cooperation Programme for the 2013-2016 period. Accordingly Vietnam and Italy appreciated the positive experience of cooperation and exchange of students and faculties between universities of the two countries and pledged to further strengthen these activities. The two sides agreed to establish workshops between the universities of Vietnam and Italy, to be held twice a year on a rotating basis by Vietnam's Ministry of Education and Training and the Ministry of Education, University and Research of Italy.
