On March 19, 2013 in Hanoi, the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA) and the Vietnam Fund for Supporting Technological Creations (Vifotec) in collaboration with the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, and the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, announced projects winning the Technological and Scientific Creations Awards, World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Awards, and Vietnam Intellectual Property Gold Cups 2012. The 20th founding anniversary of Vifotec Fund (1992 - 2012) was also organised.
 
In 2012, the Organizing Committee received 105 candidate projects and 41 were honoured, including five first prize winners, eight runners-up, 12 third prize winners, and 16 consolation prize winners. Winning projects are involved in mechanical engineering - automation, material technology, information technology, electronics, telecoms, bio-technology, eco-friendly technology, the use of natural resources, energy saving and new energies.
 
On this occasion, the Prime Minister also presented certificates of merit to 10 lead authors and co-authors of five first prize winners. The Vietnam General Confederation of Labour bestowed the certificate of creative work for authors of first, second and third prize winning projects. Authors of first, second and third prize winning projects also received the certificates of merit and creative medals from the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.
 
Notably, the WIPO Awards 2012 are handed to Biotech Joint Stock Company with a project “Applying Fito – Biomix RR production technology to process rice straws into organic fertilisers for plants” and to Thuy Phuong Poultry Research Centre with the project “Selecting and developing egg-focused, meat-focused chickens.”
 
Do Ngoc
