France Awards Legion of Honour Medal to Vietnamese Former Ambassador
French Ambassador to Vietnam Jean-Noël Poirier conferred the Second-class Legion of Honour Medal to former Vietnamese Ambassador to France Trinh Ngoc Thai.
Mr Thai, born in 1930, did his outstanding service to Vietnam and helped Vietnam’s integration into the world. Speaking French as his mother tongue, he made tireless effort to the development of French. He actively brought Vietnam to the Francophone international community. He was the member and then the chairman of Executive Board of the Francophone from 1992 to 1997. He made important contributions in his capacity as General Secretary of the National Committee responsible for organising the 7th Francophone Summit in Hanoi in 1997. He also actively worked for peace, development and mutual understanding of peoples. He was the Vice President of Vietnam Peace and Development Foundation and Vice Chairman of the Vietnam - France Friendship Society.
The Legion of Honour, founded by
Napoléon Bonaparte on May 19, 1802, is France’s highest rank of decoration. It is conferred on exceptional individuals or organisations with outstanding contributions to France.
