Over VND6.5 Trillion for Southern Highway

On December 6 the Prime Minister approved investment in the first phase of construction of a highway linking Ho Chi Minh City with Trung Luong in southern Tien Giang province.

The highway will run through Ho Chi Minh City, An Giang and Tien Giang provinces with total length of 39.8 km, plus 22.1km of sub-way. It has eight lanes of which four will be built in the first phase, says an official with the Ministry of Transport, the project's owner.

Total investment for the project is estimated at over VND6.5 trillion. Bidding appointment is allowed and contractors will also be provided with a sum equal to 20 per cent of the contract's value for its construction, according to the PM’s decision. The project is set to start in December 2004 and be completed in 2007.
