Receiving Slovakian Defense Minister Martin Glvac on June 9 during his working visit to Viet Nam, State President Truong Tan Sang considered the visit, on the occasion of the 65th founding anniversary of bilateral relations, a concrete contribution to accelerating the two countries’ ties.

He suggested the two sides review signed agreements in order to exceed the current trade turnover of US$400 million, adding that Viet Nam is willing to act as a bridge for Slovakian goods to penetrate in ASEAN markets.

For his part, Minister Glvac hoped that the State President will continually support the two sides to step up cooperation in national defense.

Earlier, Viet Nam and Slovakia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on bilateral defense cooperation following talks between Minister of Defense General Phung Quang Thanh and his counterpart Martin Glvac.

The MoU helps create a legal foundation for the two countries to elevate their defense ties for peace, stability and security in the region and beyond.

The two ministers discussed regional and global issues of mutual concern and put forth measures to bolster Vietnam-Slovakia defense relations in the coming time.

Both nations will focus on promoting all-level delegation exchanges, personnel training and sharing experience in United Nations-led peace-keeping missions.
