Mr Nguyen Manh Tung, Director of the Customs Information Technology and Statistics Department under the General Department of Vietnam Customs, said, the customs authority of Vietnam is working with the customs authority of Malaysia to connect the National Single Windows (NSW) of the two countries in September 2015 as guided by the Vietnam National Steering Committee for ASEAN Single Window (ASW) and NSW.

Information interconnected and exchanged between the two NSWs is expected to be information on customs declarations. Currently, the two sides are making positive steps in administrative procedures, compliance and IT system standardisation for the NSW connectivity from now until the end of 2015. If the connection is successful, Malaysia will become the first ASEAN country with which Vietnam connects its NSW.

According to the General Department of Customs, Malaysia is now applying NSW at 23 ports and 166 customs stations with the participation of 30 administration agencies and eight local banks. This is one of four ASEAN countries ready to connect with the ASEAN Single Window along with Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia. Tung said, after the pilot connection with Malaysia, Vietnam will work with other countries in the region for new connections.
