Vietnam to Host ASEAN Environmental Ministers Meeting
2015 is a pivotal year in the ASEAN cooperation. Vietnam and other member countries as well have been actively carrying out a lot of significant activities to contribute to the development and success of ASEAN and the formation of the ASEAN Community on December 31, 2015. Particularly, in October 2015, Vietnam will host the 13th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Environment (AMME 13), the ASEAN+3 Environment Ministers’ Meeting and several other related events in Hanoi.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment is the Vietnamese agency chairing the 13th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Environment and the ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Environment. The Action Programme of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in cooperation with ASEAN on environment in the 2014 - 2015 period has defined tasks of chairing and coordinating with domestic and foreign agencies to successfully host AMME 13 and related events.
AMME 13 will review the implementation of regional environmental deals since AMME 12; discuss new cooperation contents and propose solutions to enhance ASEAN’s environmental cooperation in the future, especially for the period following 2015 when the ASEAN Community has been established. The meeting will also discuss and adopt an ASEAN Declaration on Climate Change to prepare for the 21st United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP21), and the Joint Statement and Outcomes Statement of AMME 13. The event is expected to see the presence of environmental ministers from ASEAN member countries, Japan, China and South Korea, along with the ASEAN Secretariat and representatives of ASEAN’s partner organisations. The Vietnamese side will be attended by representatives of governmental agencies like the Government Office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs, and the Hanoi People's Committee.
In addition to AMME 13, a series of related events will be also held from October 26 to 31, 2015, including the 14th ASEAN+3 Environment Ministers’ Meeting, the Senior Officials’ Meeting to prepare for AMME 13, the 11th Conference of the Parties to the ASEAN Agreement on Trans-boundary Haze Pollution (COP 11) and the 11th Meeting of the Committee on Implementing the ASEAN Agreement on Trans-boundary Haze Pollution (COM 11), aimed at reviewing the implementation of programmes and projects in ten environmental co-operation categories within the ASEAN and ASEAN+3 cooperation framework.
