Vietnam’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the first half was estimated to rise 5.52 per cent compared to the same period last year, of which the industry and construction sector increased 7.12 per cent and the service sector up 6.35 per cent, but the agriculture-aquatic-forestry sector experienced a decrease of 0.18 per cent.

The information was released at a press conference on June 28 about the nation’s socio-economic performances in the first half of 2016.

Director of the General Statistics Office (GSO) Nguyen Bich Lam said that the slow growth in the GDP is due to changes in the world’s economy, which caused negative impacts on the nation’s economy.

In the industry and construction sector, industry, manufacturing and processing, and construction witnessed respective increases of 6.82 per cent, 10 per cent and 8.8 per cent.

The service sector recorded the highest growth since 2012, including the retail sales up 8 per cent, banking, finance and insurance up 6 per cent, and real estate up 3.77 per cent which was the highest figure since 2011.

As the GDP grew 5.52 per cent in the first half, in the second half it has to reach 7.6 per cent, so the target of 6.7 per cent for this year set by the National Assembly will be achieved.
