Vietnam Injects US$955.4Mln into Urban Water Supply Projects by 2020

Vietnam is investing a total of VND15 trillion (US$955.41 million) to implement 170 urban water supply projects nationwide until 2020.

To date, the projects have raised the water supply capacity to 3.7 million cubic meters per day in urban areas, ensuring enough water for 70 per cent of urban dwellers with 70 liters/person/day.

The urban water wastage ratio has also fallen to 35 per cent from 40 per cent in 2002.

By the end of last year, nearly 80 per cent of urban people had 60 liters of clean water/person/day while the figure in the rural areas was only 54 per cent.

Vietnam targets to help 85 per cent rural residents have clean water and 71 per cent of them use hygienic toilets in 2010.

The country also plans to provide enough clean water for all residents by 2020. (Vietnam & World Economy Feb 16 p5, The People Feb 16 p1)
