Petrolimex Opens Petrol Depot, Port in Northern Vietnam

The Vietnam National Petroleum Corporation (Petrolimex) on January 28 inaugurated the expansion of the largest oil depot and port system in the northern province of Quang Ninh, Tin Tuc (News) daily newspaper reported.

The 13-meter-deep port, called B12, can now handle 4 million cubic meters of petroleum products per annum, an increase of 14 folds compared with its initial capacity, and is able to handle about one-third of the country's total 12.4 million metric tonnes of imports forecast for this year.

Petrolimex has invested VND100 billion (US$6.37 million) to upgrade the B12 Port, including the building of a 17,000 cubic meter tank, three 12,000 cubic meter tanks, two pier systems capable of receiving 5,000 tonnes and 40,000-tonne ships, and purchase of a 3,600-HP pilot and rescue vessel.

Vietnam, the sixth largest Asian crude oil exporter, has to import most of refined oil for its energy demand. Petrolimex controls about 60 per cent of the purchases.
