Vietnam Spends US$20Mln on Automobile Imports in January

 

Vietnam is forecast to spend US$20 million importing over 1,200 finished automobiles in January, up 68.1 per cent in value and 31.3 per cent in volume, according to the figures from the Ministry of Trade.

 

The country is also predicted to spend US$40 million on importing auto spare parts and kits in the month, a rise of US$17 million compared with that in the same period last year.

 

In 2004, Vietnam imported 22,000 automobiles, up from 20,200 units in 2003.

 

According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA), eleven foreign-invested auto assemblers in the country sold 40,138 units in 2004, down 6 per cent on year.
