Vietnam Assembles Over 4,900 Automobiles in Jan

Automobile manufacturers in Vietnam are estimated to assemble 4,903 automobiles in January of 2005, representing a year-on-year increase of 94.5 per cent, according to the government General Statistics Office (GSO).

However, the national auto production sees an on-month fall of 23.7 per cent from 6,425 units in December.

Foreign-invested firms led the auto industry with 3,994 units in the month, up 96.9 per cent on year but down 26.6 per cent on month, the private sector turned out 219 units, up 298.2 per cent on year and 11.7 per cent on month, and the state-owned sector produced 690 units, up 57.5 per cent on year but down 12.7 per cent on month.

In 2004, automakers in the Southeast Asian country produced and assembled 44,760 automobiles, up 1,821 units from 42,939 units in 2003, according the Ministry of Transport.
