New Automated Teller Machines Introduced in Vietnam

The US-based Diebold Group has just introduced an automated teller machine (ATM) of a new generation namely Opteva, which was granted the best security technology award by International ATM Technology Association in 2004.

According to Jim Merrell, global marketing director of Diebold, Vietnam is a market strongly developing automatic transaction services, particularly in banking sector. In the near future, many banks will robustly invest into the ATM system and this is an opportunity for Diebold to develop business in Vietnam.

The ATMs of Diebold are used in most developed countries in the world and have high security for cardholders.

Vietnam now has three card alliances: the alliance of Vietcombank and 15 other banks, BankNet of the National Financial Switching Joint Stock Co established by Agribank, Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV), Industrial and Commercial Bank Vietnam (Incombank), Asia Commercial Bank, Eastern Asia Bank, Saigon Thuong Tin Commercial Joint Stock, Saigon Industrial Commercial Bank and Vietnam Data Communications Co and the Vietnam Bank Card (VNBC) between the Eastern Asia Bank (EAB) and the Bank for Industry and Trade of Saigon (Saigon Bank).

Banks in Vietnam installed a total of 215 ATMs across the country last year, bringing the total number of ATMs to over 600. Vietcombank now owns the most ATMs, at around 380, followed by Agribank with more than 100 ATMs.
