Vietnam Chairman Starts Trip to Switzerland

Chairman of Vietnam’s National Assembly Nguyen Van An left the UK yesterday for his trip to Switzerland, which is scheduled to be the last destination of his European tour.

Before concluding his visit to the UK, the Vietnamese official met with Michael Martin, Speaker of the United Kingdom's House of Commons in London on March 22. They both confirmed that the two countries will bolster legislative cooperation in the coming time.

The chairman thanked the UK for its assistance during Vietnam's renewal process, particularly in the areas of development assistance and investment. Currently, the UK is the second biggest investor in the Southeast Asian country among European Union countries.

On the same day, the Vietnamese guest also met with members of the British All-Party Parliamentary Group on Vietnam.

He held separate talks on how to strengthen the friendly and cooperative ties between Vietnam and the UK in each domain with Gareth Thomas, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for International Development; Douglas Alexander, Minister of State for Foreign and Commonweath Affairs; Alderman Michael Savory, the Lord Mayor of London, and Ben Chapman, MP, Chairman of the British All-Party Parliamentary Group on Vietnam.

Chairman An makes his first visit abroad this year to Italy, Belgium, the UK, North Ireland and Switzerland from March 12 to 25.
