The Asian Development Bank will provide US$20 million in non-refundable aid for Vietnam to carry out a HIV/AIDS prevention propaganda project.
The project, which will be implemented from the first quarter of 2006, is expected to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS among young people, the most vulnerable group in the country.
At present, the number of people living with HIV in Vietnam are mostly young, 62 per cent under the age of 20-29, with Ho Chi Minh City, Quang Ninh, and Hanoi having the highest numbers.
According to the General Statistics Office (GSO), the country identified 91,600 HIV/AIDS victims, of whom 14,700 were developing AIDS and 8,500 had died.
Vietnam now has around 30 million young people, accounting for 37 per cent of its total population.
