Nutrition for Child Health

The Vietnam Pediatric Association in coordination with Korean Namyang Milk held a seminar on Nutrition and Treatment for Prolonged Cholera in Children on March 26, 2005 in Hanoi. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Gia Khanh, Chairman of Gastroenterological Department of the Central Hospital for Pediatrics, said the children should be fully provided with nourishment (even when they do not suffer from cholera), since a lack of micro substances and Vitamin A and zinc, or malnutrition also raises danger of prolonged cholera and creates unusual changes in intestinal structure and function.

Besides a diet of cereals, soya bean, and oil which supply high content of calories, necessary amino acid and micro substances which help act as mucous membrane in the intestines and enhance nutritious recovery ability, XO-labeled milk is assessed as the most efficient solution currently available. Products by Namyang for child patients of cholera and lactose allergy available in Vietnam’s market include Hope Doctor and Hope Allergy which are supplemented with lactalbumin, galactosylactose, lactusose, FOS, and rafinose which are useful for inflammation protection.

Figures from the Central Pediatrics Hospital show that around 30 children are sent to hospital with acute syndromes of cholera each day.
