Viettel Provides Internet Telephony Service

 

The Vietnam Military Telecoms Corporation (Viettel) has recently embarked on providing an international Internet telephone service in an effort to diversify its services and expand its business scope.

 

The corporation has issued three types of prepaid Internet telephone cards, including Asia Card, America Card and Europe Card, with nomination ranging from VND50,000 to VND300,000.

 

With a chartered capital of VND950 billion (US$60 million), the corporation is providing such telecoms services as VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), landline telephone and mobile phone service.

 

Viettel’s mobile phone network, the third largest mobile network in Vietnam, has seen a continuous rise in clientele, with its total number of subscribers now topping the 600,000 mark.

 

The military operator aims to attract 1.5 million subscribers and set up 1,800 transceiver stations in total by the end of this year. The firm targets total revenues of VND2.5 trillion (US$158.2 million) in 2005.
