Vietnam Prime Minister to Travel to China for Summit

Vietnam Prime Minister Phan Van Khai will attend the second Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) Cooperation Summit to be held on July 4-5 in Kunming, China.

The participation is made at the invitation of Chinese State Council Prime Minister Wen Jiabao, the Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in Hanoi on June 29.

Khai’s trip to China comes after he recently concluded his historic visit to the US. Khai is the first leader of the Vietnamese communist-ruled government to make a trip to the US since the Vietnam War ended 30 years ago.

Vietnam is seeking agreements with both China and the US on its bilateral World Trade Organization negations so as to join the organization later this year.
