Construction of six road sections and one bridge is expected to kick off this year in an effort to meet the deadline of 2010 for the trans-national Ho Chi Minh Highway project, the project managerial board reported.
This year's projects involve two sections linking the highway with the World Heritage site of Phong Nha-Ke Bang and the historic site dedicated to Hai Thuong Lan Ong, a legend in the traditional medicine in Vietnam.
Other four major projects will be launched next year and 10 others between 2007 and 2010.
The 3,167-km two-lane road will stretch from the northern border province of Cao Bang to the southernmost province of Ca Mau.
