Though Vietnam-China cooperation is encouraging, it fails to commensurate with the great potentials of the two countries. Vietnam will try its utmost to increase friendship and cooperative ties with China, especially in investment, trade and tourism compatible with the advantages of each country, said Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung at the Vietnam-China Economic and Trade Forum in Nanning (China).
In the past few years, the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and neighbouring China has continued to develop. In 2004, the two-way trade value increased to over US$7.19 billion. By mid-2005, over 340 Chinese enterprises had invested in nearly US$700 million Vietnam, and over one million tourists had visited each other’s country. Furthering the bilateral relationship, Vietnam participated in the Second China-ASEAN Trade Fair (CAExpo 2005) on October 19-22. 2005 in Nanning, China.
CAExpo 2005 was one of the biggest trade fairs in China in 2005, with 15 sections and 3,000 stands on 50,000 sq. metres, focusing on six areas: land and people, trade, investment, tourism, science and technology, and international cooperation. The Vietnamese pavilion occupied 1,000 sq. metres with the display of export items most attractive to China. Vietnamese companies have signed many agreements and contracts with Chinese counterparts and established sales agents in China.
In the framework of CAExpo 2005, a Vietnam-China Economic and Trade Forum was held with the participation of government officials and over 400 businesses from Vietnam, China and other Asian countries. At the forum, the importance of Guangxi province and Vietnam were highlighted for the development of cooperation between China and ASEAN. Like Yunnan and Guangdong, Guangxi has a common border with Vietnam, a gateway between China and ASEAN. The province has an area of 236,000 sq. kilometres and a population of nearly 48 million. With an improved communication network and infrastructure the gateway will play an important role in the promotion of economic and trade relations between China and ASEAN in general, and Guangxi and Vietnam in particular.
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung
In addition to economic benefits, the cooperation has promoted the strong traditional ties between Vietnam and China
The successful cooperation in investment, trade and tourism between Vietnam and China, Vietnam and Guangxi, Guangdong and Yunnan have contributed to the economic development and welfare of the two countries. In addition to economic benefit, the cooperation has promoted the traditional relationship between Vietnam and China. However, it still fails to commensurate with the great potentials of the two countries. Vietnam will try its utmost to increase the friendship and cooperation with China and with Guangxi in particular. Vietnamese government. related ministries and agencies continue to review policy and remove constraints in joint efforts with Chinese counterparts to promote investment and trade to attain the target of US$10 billion in two-way trade by 2010. Vietnamese government is encouraging the organisation of trade fairs and business forum to promote business opportunities between the two countries. CAExpo in fact facilitates the development of a free trade area between China and ASEAN.
VCCI Vice-President Doan Duy Khuong
CAExpo, a driving force of economic cooperation between Vietnam and China, and ASEAN and China in general
In an attempt to develop a free trade area between China and ASEAN, CAExpo is organised annually. It has also become a driving force of economic cooperation between Vietnam and China, and ASEAN and China in general.
Vietnam-China Investment and Trade Forum organised by VCCI and Chinese counterparts in the framework of CAExpo 2005 has promoted mutual understanding and economic cooperation between the two countries, and between Vietnam and Guangxi province, in particular.
Guangxi Vice-Chairman Wu Heng
CAExpo expands business opportunities
CAExpo provides more business opportunities for Vietnam and China and for the development of a free trade area between China and ASEAN. The strategy of “two corridor and a ring” of Chinese and Vietnamese territories around the Tonkin Gulf will serve as a bridge over land, water and air for the China-ASEAN free trade area. We believe that with the joint efforts of the governments and businesses of the two countries, bilateral and regional economic cooperation will prosper.
