Japan Pledges More ODA for Vietnam
Japan will continue providing Official Development Assistance (ODA) to Vietnam to upgrade infrastructure in order to attract more foreign investment, said Japanese Minister of Economics, Trade & Industry Toshihiro Nikai.
Toshihiro Nikai told Vietnamese Minister of Planning & Investment Vo Hong Phuc during his Japan visit last week that Japanese companies wanted to increase investment and spending in Vietnam.
The visit by Phuc aimed to mobilize Japan to raise aid and investment to Vietnam.
According to Phuc, Vietnam needs about US$130 billion for development in the next five years, and more funds to encourage domestic investment.
Deputy Trade Minister Phan The Rue also paid a long-week visit to Japan, which ended on November 12 to discuss measures to promote trade relations and investment between the two countries.
Japan is now Vietnam’s largest ODA donor.
