Cargo Throughput at SaigonPort Exceeds 10Mln Tons

Saigon Port, the largest operational port in Vietnam, has handled over 10 million tons of cargo so far this year, representing an on-year decrease of just 1.7 per cent and fulfilling 83.1 per cent of the target set for the whole year.
 
Of the sum, imports are 4.24 million tons (up 0.9 per cent), exports 2.37 million tons (up 10.8 per cent) and domestic goods 3.45 million tons (down 14.1 per cent).
 
Major imports via the southern seaport are steel (1.1 million tons), fertilizers (718,491 tons), container goods (642,917 tons), clinker (579,426 tons) and animal feeds (399,445 tons) while the key export is rice (1.5 million tons).
 
So far this year, the Ho Chi Minh City-based port received 1,961 ship calls, including 1,142 ships carrying imports and 819 ships conveying exports.
Saigon Port, a member of the Vietnam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines), handled over 11.5 million tons of commodities in 2004.
