The fourth International Conference and Expo on Telecommunication and Networking (COMNET Vietnam) themed 'High-end communication technology and networking systems in development' will be jointly held by the International Data Group (IDG) and the Vietnam Post and Telecommunication Corporation (VNPT) at the International Conference Centre in Hanoi from December 13-15, 2005.

The event has an important meaning when Vietnam has become one of the attractive investment destinations and Vietnamese telecommunication has become a target of many foreign investors. In particular, in 2006, the telecommunication sector opens door for foreign investors as it committed in the Vietnam-US Bilateral Trade Agreement. Foreign investors will arrive in Vietnam. Bui Quoc Viet, director of Information Centre of Post and Telecommunication /VNPT, said that six Vietnamese telecommunication enterprises were attractive targets and foreign enterprises had been ready to acquire local mobile phone networks. At the same time, many countries are waiting for the effect of the Vietnam-US Trade Agreement to promote their co-operation with Vietnamese enterprises.

Organisations and enterprises of Vietnam should make a good preparation for the process. To contribute to the event, Nguyen Dinh Thuan, director of IDG Vietnam, said that Comnet Vietnam 2005 would concentrate on introducing broadband access technologies, especially wireless technologies, modern mobile phone technologies, including 3G, Wi-Fi and WiMax. Other fields, including information security, VoIP, and satellite information systems will also be themes of the conference and expo. Local enterprises will have an opportunity to get access to modern technologies, getting ready for international integration and development.

The event will be an opportunity for product and service suppliers and providers to show their overwhelming technology strength with multi-application communication and discuss optimal solutions for developing countries like Vietnam. Within the event, there will be an expo with the participation of corporations from ten countries and territories, many of which are very famous such as HP, Cisco System, Sun Microsystems, FPT Information System and Alcatel with modern products and technologies such as WPAN, and Wi-Fi/WLAN.

The objective of the local telecommunication sector is to attract foreign investors. Local enterprises will have more opportunities to get access to modern technologies and equipment. Comnet Vietnam 2005 is expected to be an useful forum for telecommunication infrastructure managers to study and exchange ideas and experience about business solutions.
