According to the Ho Chi Minh City Investment and Trade Promotion Centre (ITPC), on the occasion of the New Year, the city will organise six weekend markets at the September 23, Park from December 2, 2005 to January 15, 2006, and a shopping festival at the Tao Dan Park from December 13-18, 2005. Also in December 2005, the city has planned 29 more fairs and exhibitions with the participation of 19 enterprises, accounting for 18 per cent of the total number of fairs and exhibitions for the whole year. Most of the fairs and exhibitions serve local consumers on the occasion of Christmas and Tet (Lunar New Year).

Also on this occasion, a fair of Vietnamese high quality goods will be held in Cambodia from December 21-25, 2005 and in Gia Lai from January 13-18, 2006. Nguyen Huu Tin, vice chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, said that at a meeting with ITPC that fairs and exhibitions should be organised carefully, reducing the organisation of poor quality fairs because the organisation of fairs plays an important role in trade, investment and tourism promotion programmes.
