Vietnam, Japan to Discuss BTA Mid This Month

Vietnam and Japan will hold their fist discussion of a Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) mid this month aiming to open up their markets, the Trade Ministry announced on February 6, 2006.
 
The first meeting will focus on areas of industry, services and agriculture, the ministry said.
 
Last December, Vietnamese Prime Minister Phan Van Khai and his Japanese counterpart Koizumi met in the sidelines of Kuala Lumpur’s multilateral summit of the East Asian region and the two leaders pledged to open dialogue about the issue early this year.
 
In 2005, Vietnam-Japan bilateral trade posted US$8 billion, the Southeast Asian country sold $4.5 billion to Japan’s market.
 
Update to last December, Japan poured nearly US$6.2 billion into 590 projects in Vietnam, of the figured US$4.5 million was disbursed.
