EU Decides to Impose 20 per cent Dumping Duty on Vietnamese Shoes
The European Commission (EC) has finally decided that it will impose an anti-dumping duty of 20 per cent on some Vietnamese and Chinese leather footwear products exported to the European Union, according to a reliable source from the EC.
The duty level of 20 per cent is three times higher than the current one that Vietnam is enjoying.
Three countries taking the initiative for this anti-dumping lawsuit, including Italy, Spain and Portugal express dissatisfaction with the duty level as Italy has earlier proposed the level of 40-50 per cent.
Big footwear firms like Adidas, Nike and Clark have immediately raised their voice to protest against the EU decision and said the duty can annually bring in EUR50 million to the European footwear industry but European consumers will face a damage of roughly EUR500 million a year as they have to buy Vietnamese and Chinese shoes at higher prices.
The 20 per cent duty will be applied from this April 7 and last six months.
