EVN Telecom, a branch of the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), yesterday launched its mobile phone network E-Mobile on a trial basis, becoming the fifth mobile phone service provider in Vietnam.
The E-Mobile network, which uses CDMA technology and is powered on a 450 MHz frequency and has high transmission speeds, can offer competitive tariffs and premium call quality to its subscribers, an EVN Telecom official said at yesterday’s launching ceremony.
EVN Telecom will calculate call tariffs on a six-second block basis. Accordingly, the call tariff will be counted every six seconds. However, the company has not specified how much subscribers will pay for each 6-second block, he said.
EVN plans to charge VND100 for each block for postpaid subscribers, local media said quoting EVN’s deputy general director Dinh Quang Tri.
In this trial period, E-Mobile has successfully connected with other mobile phone networks in the country like VinaPhone, MobiFone and Viettel. However, E-Mobile fails to connect with the CDMA technology-based S-Fone network.
EVN Telecom expects to attract one million subscribers this year. The company now has 450 base transceiver stations (BTS) capable of accommodating two million subscribers.
Apart from offering the mobile phone service, EVN Telecom also provides E-Com and E-Phone wireless telephone services, internet services and other services.
With the participation of the E-Mobile network (post code 096), EVN Telecom expects to attain a total revenue of VND2.2 trillion (US$139 million).
Currently, Vietnam has five operational mobile phone networks, VinaPhone, MobiFone, Viettel, S-Fone and E-Mobile. The country is looking for the entry of the sixth player Hanoi Telecom.
Four officially operating networks VinaPhone, MobiFone, Viettel and S-Fone now have over 8.6 million subscribers, accounting for over 56.3 per cent of the telephone population in Vietnam.
