Recently, the delegation of the World Craft Council and Mayors of Uzbekistan cities and artisans visited and worked in Son Dong commune, Hoai Duc district. Son Dong fine art sculpture village is one of the typical craft villages representing the cultural quintessence, creativity and skillful craftsmanship of Hanoi artisans.

The craft village in Son Dong is a craft village of carving statues, lacquering, gilding, silvering and making traditional worship items, with a history of formation, existence and development of thousands of years, since the Buddhist culture was introduced to Vietnam. According to the genealogy of the ancestor of the craft at Thuong temple in Son Dong commune. In 976, during the pre-Le dynasty, Duc Thanh Dao Truc, one of the talented generals of King Le Dai Hanh, built a school to teach and teach the people and was honored by the people of Son Dong as the Ancestor of the craft of carving, carving statues, lacquering, gilding and silvering.

Since then, all the physical imprints of 1,000 years of Thang Long - Hanoi have had the talented hands of Son Dong artisans participating, such as the Temple of Literature, Khue Van Cac, Ngoc Son Temple... The products of the craft village account for over 50% of the national market share of statues and worship items gilded with gold and silver, serving the cultural, spiritual and religious life of the people. When mentioning Buddha statues, worship items, gilded with gold, people immediately think of Son Dong craft village. With talented hands, the craftsmen have created many works of art with high sophistication. Wherever you go in the country, you can see worship statues crafted by Son Dong artisans. During the period of international economic integration, many artisans also make fine art products for export, serving the Vietnamese community abroad. This affirms Hanoi's position on the world handicraft map, which is the driving force for Hanoi to continue to preserve and promote traditional cultural values, while promoting the development of craft village tourism and expanding international cooperation in the field of handicrafts.

This is an opportunity to further promote the handicraft sector while strengthening cooperation with the World Craft Council and its member countries to share experiences in preserving and developing traditional craft villages associated with sustainable tourism; supporting training, improving skills for artisans and encouraging innovation in handicraft production; At the same time, expand trade cooperation, connect the market for handicraft products between Hanoi and Uzbekistan as well as other countries that are members of the World Craft Council; cooperate in organizing international events and exhibitions to promote the products of craft villages and traditional culture of the parties... Mr. Nguyen Trung Thuan, Vice Chairman of the District People's Committee, highly appreciated the attention of the World Craft Council as well as the close cooperation between localities with traditional handicrafts in the world. Uzbekistan is a country with a rich culture with many famous craft villages. Mr. Thuan believes that this working session will be an important premise for the two sides to share experiences, enhance cultural exchanges, promote trade cooperation and sustainable development between traditional craft villages.
