Hanoi on March 2, 2006 staged an anti-terrorism rehearsal, the third of this kind since December last year, with an aim to ensure safety at the upcoming 10th Party Congress and the ongoing APEC Vietnam 2006 activities.
A battle was simulated involving more than 350 special police and fire fighters maneuvering to rescue more than 500 audience members being held by 30 foreign terrorists and some local reactionary elements at the Hanoi Cultural Friendship Palace.
The rescue team was called into action, persuading the terrorists to lay down their arms and release the hostages.
In another circumstance, the terrorists did not agree to make any concessions and attempted to fire at the hostages, the rescue team had to storm the palace to rescue the hostages.
The organizing board described the drill as a success
The rehearsal, which was co-organized by the Ministry of Police and the Ministry of Public Security, was very successful, according to the organizing board.
