Bilateral trade turnover between Vietnam and Poland reached US$242.5 million in 2005, representing an on-year increase of 15.58 per cent, said Polish Commercial Attaché to Vietnam Z. Pavlic.
Of the sum, Vietnam exported US$135.6 million to the foreign country and imported $53.4 million during the year.
Farm products remained staple exports of Vietnam fetching a total export value of $60 million while garment and textile exports to Poland fell slightly, said Z. Pavlic.
Meanwhile, Vietnam mainly imported powdered milk, medicines, steel products and home appliances from Poland.
The commercial attaché revealed that Poland’s total export value to Vietnam in the first two months of this year increased by 22.1 per cent on-year while that of Vietnam also saw on-year growth of 19.3 per cent.
At present, the two sides are in the negotiation process of new two credits worth $80 million and $200 million for ship building development and the construction of a thermal power plant with a capacity of 200 MW in Vietnam, respectively.
The countries are expected to sign the deals in the second or third quarter of this year, added Z. Pavlic.
By late 2005, Poland pledged total investment of $30 million in six projects in Vietnam, ranking 39th among foreign investors in the country. Of the capital, $13.9 million was disbursed.
Currently, some 20,000 Vietnamese people are living in Poland and nearly 200 companies owned by the Vietnamese-community are currently operating in the foreign country.
Vietnam and Poland established diplomatic ties in February 1950.
