Vinashin to Export Large Vessels to Japan
The State-backed Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corp. (Vinashin), the largest shipbuilder in Vietnam, signed a deal Thursday to build two 56,000-DWT dry cargo vessels for Japan’s Itochu.
These are the first two out of twelve 56,000-DWT dry cargo freighters Vinashin will build for the Japanese partner, local media said.
However, no value or schedule for delivery of the shipbuilding contract is available. Previously, Vinashin won contracts to build sixteen 53,000-DWT ships for UK’s Graig Investments Co. and 610-TEU container series.
According to Vinashin, its ship export contract value until 2010 has exceeded $2 billion. Vinashin targets at US$1 billion revenues this year, up from last year's roughly US$690 million. Vinashin, set up in 1995, now has up to 100 affiliates located in 25 province and cities nationwide. The corporation has over 33, 000 employees.
