Vietnam late April signed an agreement with Mexico, its last Latin American partner and the 27th and among 28 WTO bilateral partners, in Geneva to officially conclude negotiations on its bid to join the World Trade Organization (WTO) with the foreign country, Tuoi Tre (Youth) reported.

The signatories are Vietnamese Ambassador to WTO Ngo Quang Xuan and his counterpart Fernando De Meteo Y Venturini.

The agreement has realized Mexico’s commitment to support Vietnam, which was made by the General Secretary of the Mexican Labor Party Alberto Anaya during Vietnamese Vice Chairman of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee's Economic Commission Truong Tan Sang tour to Mexico last April.

Vietnam and Mexico established diplomatic ties in May 1975. Their two-way trade increased to USUS$187 in 2004 from USUS$58 million in 2000.

To date Vietnam will only have to continue discussing with the US on its bid to join the Geneva-based trade club. The negotiations are expected to end next month.
