Dung Quat Shipyard Speeds up Work for Building Large Oil Tanker
The partnership between Licogi and Vinashin’s Contex is pushing up the construction pace of dry dock No. 1 in Dung Quat Shipyard in order to build the first 100,000-ton oil tanker for PetroVietnam in time.
The two companies will drive in 14,000 concrete stakes under the 380-m long, 86-m wide and 19-m deep dock.
Then, the contractors will install electrical systems, lifting equipments and others.
The Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corp. (Vinashin) has invited experts from South Korea to supervise the construction and the transfer technology.
After the construction on the dry dock is completed, materials for the oil tanker will be moved to the dock for the construction.
Vinashin schedules to build its largest-ever ship, baptized Dung Quat 01, this August.
Dung Quat Shipyard, located in central Quang Ngai province, was built in 2003 with an initial investment capital of VND600 billion (US$37.97 million).
