Work Begins on First Int'l Transshipment Port in Vietnam
Vietnam has started building its first international transshipment port at Van Phong Bay in central Khanh Hoa province, local media said, quoting the meeting between the Ministry of Transport and relevant bodies in Khanh Hoa on May 19.
The first-phase deepwater port is estimated to cost 2,916 billion ($183.4 million). Of the sum, VND132 billion will come from the State Treasury, over VND2,092 billion from investors and early 692 billion from port operators.
The 50-ha Van Phong International Transshipment Port with two wharves is capable of receiving ships of 6,000 TEUs.
The transshipment port will recover investment for the first phase after 14 years of operation. The first phase will last until 2010.
The loading capacity of the port in the first phase is about 500,000-650,000 TEUs per annum.
