Pha Rung Shipbuilding Co., a member of the State-run Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corp. (Vinashin), last weekend transferred a dry cargo ship with a load of 6,500 tons to the Dong Do Shipping Co. under the country’s largest shipping line Vinalines.

The Dong Ba-baptized ship, designed by Japan’s Kitada, is 102.79 m long, 17 m wide and 6.95 m draft height and is capable of traveling at 12.5 nautical miles an hour.

This is one of the biggest ships to be built by the Pha Rung Shipyard.

After the transference, Japan’s Tsurumaru Shipping Co. has hired the Dong Ba Ship and its crewmen.

The shipbuilder has recently won contracts to build four 6,500-ton oil and chemical tankers for South Korea’s YN Shipping Limited Co.

Pha Rung Shipyard, located in the northern city of Haiphong, posted total revenues of VND79.5 billion (US$5.03 million) in the first three months of this year, up 208 per cent on year.
