WAN optimisation technology of Riverbed is rated the best in Silicon Valley. The reporter of VIB Forum had an interview with Mr. Roberto Galbiati Southeast Asia Sales Director of Riverbed Technology Pte Ltd, at a recent seminar hosted by Riverbed in Hanoi.
What do you think about challenges and difficulties of Vietnamese enterprises in using Wide Area Network (WAN) at the moment?
The first difficulty is Vietnam’s stretching terrain. So, if there is no suitable technology, it costs a lot on transmission lines. Second, the poor IT infrastructure also has impacts on transmission quality. In Vietnam, the fibre optic cable network has not been developed. If Vietnam has a fibre optic cable network, these difficulties can be solved easily. Hence, we bring in Vietnam Riverbed’s products to overcome these difficulties. Our products help Vietnamese enterprises reduce transmission costs and increase current efficiency. Besides, our products also help clients heighten their competitiveness thanks to lower costs, higher savings and higher profits.
Can you brief business plans of Riverbed in Vietnam? Can you tell reasons for choosing Vietnam as a place of arrival at this point of time?
As soon as we entered the Vietnamese market we wanted to become the first company to supply WAN services and solutions for Vietnamese State-owned enterprises and private-run ones.
Riverbed Technology Inc., headquartered in San Francisco, California, was set up in 2002. To date, Riverbed Technology has two head offices and seven representative offices in Singapore, Sydney, Seoul, Tokyo, Beijing, Shanghai, Bangalore and Hong Kong. What are your objectives in the Vietnamese market?
We brought in modern technology resolutions for Vietnamese enterprises and government to increase their competitive edge on the threshold of a deeper economic integration and the upcoming WTO accession. In the short term, we need to choose partners. Our requirements are very simple. First, the partner of Riverbed must be a network solution provider. Then, the partner must take part in at least a three-day training programme of Riverbed and distribute Riverbed products. The partner must be rich in experience. For example, a company as a golden partnership of Cisco is suitable to be my partner.
