The Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) said the power consumption in July grew 5.5 per cent on-month and 18.2 per cent on year due to the hot weather in the northern part. In the first seven months of this year, the commercial electricity output reached nearly 28.9 billion kWh, an on-year increase of 13.2 per cent. Notably, the power for industrial and construction sectors rose 18.2 per cent on year and the electricity for civil use was up 10.9 per cent.

The power output increase is attributable to complicated rains and floods in northern mountainous region and the large amount of water running into reservoirs. Hoa Binh Reserves, for example, received averagely 10,000 m3/s, a 3-time increase compared with the inputting amount in May. Hence, Hoa Binh electric generators produce more power than in June, averagely 37.2 million kWh/day, leading to the 37.6 per cent growth in hydropower output and accounting for 27.7 per cent of the national power generation system.
