WB Helps Improve Health Care Services in Mekong Delta
Recently, Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam Le Duc Thuy and World Bank Country Director in Vietnam Klaus Rohland signed an agreement on a US$70 million soft loan and a US$5 million non-refundable aid for a project on improving health care services in the Mekong delta.
The US$70 million loan helps improve health care services for people in the Mekong delta, especially the poor, helping them have more opportunities to get access and use medical services. The US$5 million non-refundable aid will be used for technical assistance and capability building by providing consultancy and training services. These targets will be achieved by expanding the beneficiary scale and coverage of health insurance services for poor and near poor households, and improving the quality and capability of health care services in the region. Also, local preventive medicine system will receive help to improve its capability in settling threats of epidemics and new diseases, as well as new medical challenges and improving capability of medical workers to provide high quality health care services for poor and near poor households.
The project consists of five parts, including the protection of poor and near poor households from health and related financial risks; medical check-up and treatment quality and capability; preventive medicine; human resources management; project management, supervision and evaluation.
