The Phu Thai Retail Group and Saigon Coop. Mart, the two leading retailers in Vietnam, are jointly building a modern domestic goods distribution network worth VND6 trillion (US$377 million).

The information was announced at the Phu Thai group’s recent opening ceremony of the disabled-made products distribution center.

According to Pham Dinh Doan, director of the Phu Thai Group, this large project will be divided into many parts including the building of wholesale and retail networks through chains of standardized supermarkets [including big supermarkets and trade centers meeting regional and international requirements].

If successful, this will become one of the country’s largest distribution networks owned by Vietnamese enterprises, which are able to compete with other international rivals during the integration process, he added.

The Phu Thai Group, which was set up in 1993 with headquarters in Hanoi, now has three branches in Haiphong, Ho Chi Minh and Danang with a workforce of nearly 700 staff and thousands of retail stores nationwide.
